University professor to present Einstein lecture at Wolverhampton school
Released: 19 October 2007
A lecture entitled Einstein’s Gravitational Waves - A New Breakthrough will be presented at a Wolverhampton school.
Professor BS Sathyaprakash, Professor of Gravitational Physics at Cardiff University, will talk on the subject at Highfields Science Specialist School on Monday, 19 November. The lecture at the school, in Boundary Way, Penn, will begin at 7.30pm.
Professor Sathyaprakash was born in Bangladore, India, where he attended the National College. He gained his PhD in Theoretical Physics at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangladore. He has been at Cardiff University since 1996 and his research interest is centred around the detection of gravitational waves. He has contributed to the British-German GEO600, American LIGO and the French-Italian VIRGO projects.
He will discuss how gravitational waves are produced, their characteristics and astronomical sources and explain how gravitational waves help us to see black holes, measure dark energy and solve the enigma of the Big Bang.
