City will enjoy explosive Guy Fawkes celebrations

Released: 17 October 2007

Wolverhampton is set to celebrate Bonfire Night in explosive fashion, with not one, but two city council-organised displays.  The events are on successive nights so fireworks fanatics can enjoy double the fun.

Celebrations begin on Friday 2 November, with a bonfire and fireworks display at Hickman Park, Bilston. Gates open at 5.30pm with a children's fireworks display at 6.30pm, the lighting of the bonfire at 7pm and the main pyrotechnic show at 8pm. Both fireworks displays will be set to music.

Then the action moves to West Park, on Saturday 3 November. Again, gates open at 5.30pm with younger members of the audience treated to their very own show at 7pm.

The bonfire will be lit at 7.30pm before the park comes alive to the sound of the main firework display an hour later.

Wolverhampton Mayor Councillor Trudy Bowen will light the huge bonfires at both parks. Visitors will be able browse various trade stalls or enjoy the thrills of the giant funfair at both shows.

The events have attracted thousands of people in previous years and Councillor John Reynolds, cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: "The city council's annual fireworks and bonfire displays are always entertaining evenings. They are a safe way for everyone to celebrate Bonfire Night and to see great pyrotechnic displays."

Tickets priced at £2.50 for children and £3.50 for adults are available on the gate at both events.

Issued by the press office.
