New local involvement networks for city
Released: 10 October 2007
A new independent network of people and organisations across the city which have an interest in health and social care will be set up in Wolverhampton next year. The Government has announced that Local Involvement Networks (LINks) are to be established throughout the country in 2008 to make sure that local people have a say in health and social care services. The network will be able to influence the way local services are provided and some people will be able to view health and social care premises.
Wolverhampton City Council and Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust are working with local people and other organisations in the city to set up a Local Involvement Networks for the city.
Cabinet Member for Adults Councillor Geoff Foster, said: “Wolverhampton Council is committed to ensuring that local people can influence the way services are provided in the City. We will work with local people and partner organisations to make sure that LINks are able to build on networks that already exist can make a real difference for people using health and social care services.” Cath Cunningham, Assistant Chief Executive for Wolverhampton City Primary Care Trust, said: “The PCT welcomes this new opportunity to work with local people on the future of health and care services. We are committed to involving people in the development of our services and see this as a real chance to reach people who do not usually get involved”. A workshop is taking place next Monday, 15 October 2007, in the Major Buckley Suite at Molineux Stadium at from 6 pm to 8pm for people wanting to find out more about becoming a member or participant in the proposed Wolverhampton LINks.
Anyone wanting to book a place at the workshop can email Rodger Mann or phone on 01902 550127.
For further information from the PCT contact Cath Cunningham, Assistant Chief Executive via the or phone 01902 444757.
The Government has decided that each local authority area that has social service responsibilities should set up a LINks, but will leave it up to each LINks to decide how it will operate.
In Wolverhampton work will be undertaken with local people and organisations to make sure that the LINks continues the good work of the Patient Forums and builds on the other forums for community involvement in health and social care including Locality Health Panels (LHP) and the Local Area and Neighbourhood Arrangements (LANA).
The role of the local authority will be to find an independent ‘host’ organisation that will support the LINks.
