Bilston East Partnership takes a journey back to the future
Released: 3 October 2007
A tour of Bilston to explore its past and future will take place to set the scene before a local neighbourhood partnership annual conference this week.
People attending the Bilston East conference have been invited to journey into the past and learn more about future aspirations for the town by joining a coach tour prior to the meeting on Friday October 5.
The tour will start at Bilston Methodist Church and will visit many of the historical, newly developed and sites to be developed such as the Bilston Urban Village.
Neighbourhood Partnership Officer, John Goalby, said: “On this coach journey many people with relevant skills and knowledge, from local historians to people leading new exciting local regeneration initiatives, will paint a picture of the ever changing Bilston.
“There is much to look forward to in the future and residents have much to be proud of. The Bilston-Bradley area, in particular, is steeped in a history shaped by industry through John Wilkinson’s Ironworks and links to the rest of the country created by local canal networks.”
The tour will take about two hours during the morning, finishing at the Robin 2, on Mount Pleasant Road, where the conference is taking place.
The annual Bilston East Local Neighbourhood Partnership Conference will start at about 2pm with an opening presentation by Dr Adrian Phillips, Director of Public Health for Wolverhampton.
The agenda also includes a presentation by the partnership on the progress made since it was formed, under the headings of the Environment, Health, Leisure, Learning, Crime and Safety and Community Involvement.
The conference is open to all residents from East Bilston but people are asked to please book in advance by calling John Goalby on 01902 551760.
The coach is now full, with just a few spaces left for members of Bilston East Local Neighbourhood Partnership.
