Neighbourhood partnership branches out again with gift to school
Released: 30 November 2007
Wolverhampton pupils have planted two new trees at their school after they were donated by a neighbourhood partnership in a renewed gesture of gratitude and environmental awareness.
The Bilston East Neighbourhood Partnership has given the apple trees to Holy Trinity Catholic Primary School, in Bilston, to say thank-you for their contribution to the community and an action plan for the area. The tree planting is also part of efforts to help balance the environmental effects of producing the plan.
The gesture is the second of its kind this year after the partnership donated an oak tree to the school in July.
The 43-page Bilston East Action Plan, which has been put together by the neighbourhood partnership as part of its work with local communities and agencies, was launched at the partnership’s annual conference in October.
The plan outlines what will be expected and delivered by agencies and organisations in Bilston East to meet some of the needs identified by Bilston residents.
Pupils from Holy Trinity joined with other schools in the area to create a large scale model of Bilston East to help local people prioritise the issues that mattered to them, which were included in the action plan.
Steve Poole, Community Development Worker, said: “This gesture is a great way to give something back to the environment and say thank-you to the school for all the help they have offered to groups and activities in the Bilston area.”
Holy Trinity Headteacher Carroll McNally, said: “As a school working hard to achieve our Eco-School gold award we are very aware of our responsibilities to the environment.
“Our children are taught stewardship and conservation of the local area, they recycle, grow their own food, compost and have been involved in a number of activities, such as planting our orchard, designed to support our community in sustainability.
“We are hoping in future to work with the partnership in creating inter-generational allotments for the children to work with the senior members from our area. We are very pleased to receive the partnership’s support.”
