Councillor John Reynolds promotes the refurbished health and fitness suite at central baths

Gym given tonic

Released: 9 November 2007

A refurbished health and fitness suite has been unveiled at Wolverhampton’s Central Baths – along with a new discount card which promises to save users money.

Improvement work costing £25,000 has seen a range of new equipment installed at the Wolverhampton City Council-run leisure centre.

The popular city centre gym now boasts a large range of the latest gear including cross trainers, treadmills, bikes, an upper body exerciser, rowing machines, resistance equipment and a dumb bell area.

And to celebrate, the council’s sport and recreation team have unveiled their new FIT card scheme, which can save regular users hundreds of pounds a year.

The cards are available in three different packages:

  • FIT Gym Card - allows holders to use the new gym equipment at Central Baths as well as facilities at Aldersley Leisure Village and Bilston Leisure Centre.
  • FIT Swim Card - gives access to swimming pools at Bilston Leisure Centre and Central Baths
  • FIT Combi Card - enables users to access both the pool and gym equipment at Bilston and Central Baths and gym equipment at Aldersley.

FIT Swim cards cost £110 a year, FIT Gym is £180 and FIT Combi £260, and they can be paid for either upfront or in monthly installments.

Ian Bosworth, senior operations manager, said: "The new card enables our regular customers to save money - for example a swimmer who comes three times a week can save more than £100 a year if they have a FIT Swim card, and gym users can save over £200 with a FIT Gym pass.

“In fact FIT Combi cardholders who use the gym three times a week and swim twice could save more than £800.

“We hope to attract new customers who want to regularly exercise and we look forward to welcoming them to use our great new equipment at Central Baths.

“The old gym had a limited range and machines such as cross trainers, extra treadmills and a dumb bell area are all welcome additions to the suite.”

The fully air-conditioned gym reopened on Wednesday 7 November.
