Toy library's birthday celebrations
Released: 8 November 2007
Wolverhampton toy library’s first birthday will be celebrated this month with the help of childcare providers from the city.
A birthday bash will be held at the toy library which is based at the Jennie Lee Centre, Lichfield Road, Wednesfield, on Monday 19 November.
The toy library, run by Wolverhampton City Council’s Early Years and Childcare Service, offers childcare providers access to a wide range of toys and equipment. They have been invited to join the celebrations and bring along the children they look after. The event will give those who are not already using the facilities an opportunity to view the library while the children play games and join in the activities.
The toy library plays a key role in helping childcare providers including childminders, out of school clubs, day nurseries and playgroups across the city provide the highest quality play and learning experiences for the children in their care. Councillor Paula Brookfield, Wolverhampton City Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “Play is a vital component in every child's development; the ability to extend the range of toys and play equipment a child has access to can only help in this.
“I would like to applaud this excellent service, offer my best wishes on its birthday, and urge any childcare providers not using this service to join now.”
A wide range of toys and resources are available such as sensory equipment for children with additional needs to activity boxes to help youngsters learn about the world around them. Toys and resources are available on a loan basis to childcare providers who become members of the library. The birthday event is being run in two sessions; from 10am to 12.30pm and from 1pm to 3pm.
Any childcare providers who would like to take part are asked to call 01902 551983 to reserve a place.
