Adult education staff put children's needs first

Released: 8 November 2007

Adult Education Service staff from Wolverhampton City Council are doing their bit to help Children in Need.

The employees have organised a week of events and games in a bid to raise hundreds of pounds for the annual charity event.

They will be getting off to an energetic start with staff from the Learning Quarter Café promising to complete 1,000 laps of the kitchen in a relay on Monday 12 November.

Then staff will be putting their heads in the stocks with people lining up to pelt them with wet sponges and plates of cream on Tuesday 13 November.

Also on Tuesday, there will be soup tasting in the café - for £1, supporters will be able to try as many varieties as they like.

Other money-spinning events include a demonstration of flower arranging, a hands-on card making demonstration and a raffle on Wednesday 14 November; a collection and get-together over a buffet on Friday 16 November, and a sponsored exercise session on Monday 19 November.

Bring and buy stalls will also be set up most days of the week, while recipe books, cakes and Christmas cards will all be on sale.

Sian Fletcher, Curriculum Manager, said: “Children in Need is a really worthwhile cause and we hope lots of people - our staff, adult learners and the general public - come along and join in the fun.

“We are keen for people to donate items for the raffle and the bring and buy sale - if anyone has anything, can they please drop them off at the café where they will be gratefully received.”

The events will take place at the Adult Education Centre’s base at the City Learning Quarter on Old Hall Street, Wolverhampton.

For more details about the events, call the Adult Education Service on 01902 551532.
