Foster carers given chance to win dream holiday

Released: 29 March 2007

Wolverhampton foster carers are being rewarded for the great work they do with the chance to win a holiday of a lifetime.

Wolverhampton City Council has teamed up with Fred Olsen Travel to offer foster carers the opportunity to enter a fantastic competition to visit the destination of their choice.

The travel agents, which is situated on the second floor of Beatties in Wolverhampton, has agreed to sponsor the holiday draw for foster carers as a way of saying thank-you for their on-going commitment to young people in the city.

Beacon Radio presenter Anna Sykes launched the competition today at the Foster Care Centre in Waterloo Road.

The winning foster carer will receive £1,000 worth of travel vouchers. The competition is free to enter and is open to any foster carer approved by Fostering in Wolverhampton, the fostering section of Wolverhampton City Council.

The winner will be drawn at random by the Mayor of Wolverhampton in December.

Councillor Christine Irvine, Wolverhampton City Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “I would like to thank Fred Olsen Travel for their support; it is a very kind gesture and a great way of saying thank-you to all those carers who have supported Fostering in Wolverhampton. I would also like to thank Beacon Radio for their help and I look forward to speaking to the winning foster carer in December.

“Fostering is a very rewarding vocation in itself and I would encourage anyone who has ever thought about becoming a foster carer to call Fostering in Wolverhampton for further information.”

Beacon Radio’s Anna Sykes added: “We are thrilled to be joining forces with the fostering team for this great giveaway - it’s a fantastic way to reward the foster carers for all the hard work they do. They certainly deserve a relaxing getaway and it’ll be good fun choosing where to go.”

Fostering in Wolverhampton can be contacted on 0800 0730 189 for more information about the competition or fostering. Alternatively see www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/fostering for fostering information.
