Cooking up exciting plans for the Wolverhampton food and drink fair

Released: 29 March 2007

Preparations are underway for the inaugural Food and Drink Fair to be hosted in Wolverhampton by the city council’s tourism service.

The event will showcase the best in buying, cooking and consuming food and drink from local organisations, producers, restaurateurs and retailers.

It is being organised in partnership with Black Country Tourism, through Advantage West Midlands, which is providing funding for a celebrity chef to host the day at the Civic Hall on Saturday May 19. The organisers are thrilled to be able to involve a celebrity chef and will announce who it is soon, as the arrangements are close to being finalised.

Organisers are hoping to attract thousands of residents and visitors from around the region to the fair, which is being held as part of the Wolverhampton Shows Off city status birthday celebrations.

Councillor John Reynolds, Wolverhampton City Council Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “Wolverhampton is gaining a great reputation for its food and drink. We have a lot to be proud of from the diverse range of eating establishments to our continental and local markets.

“This event in the heart of the city will highlight all aspects of food and drink, from buying good quality produce to cooking it healthily, and I’m sure it will attract visitors from far and wide.”

A range of exhibitors, with stands providing information, including demonstrations and samples, are expected to take part in the fair, taking place from 10am to 4.30pm.

Anyone in the food and drink industry who would like to find out more about getting involved is urged to get in contact with Leigh White at Wolverhampton Tourism on 01902 551066 or by email.
