Czech out new business opportunities in a growing market

Released: 23 March 2007

The growing Czech market offers significant opportunities for Black Country companies wanting to expand into eastern Europe, a conference in Wolverhampton heard.

Representatives of more than 30 local companies attended the Czech It Out event at Wolverhampton Racecourse, held by Wolverhampton City Council and UK Trade and Investment.

The Czech Ambassador, Jan Winkler, was welcomed to Wolverhampton by the Mayor, Coun John Davis.

Other speakers at the event included Terry Wood of UK Trade and Investment, the Government organisation dedicated to promote international trade, Peter Urbanek, Commercial Counsellor at the Czech Embassy and Hana Chlebna of Czechinvest, the Czech inward investment body.

David Evans of Aldridge electronic repair company Lektronix outlined how UK Trade and Investment introduced his company to the Czech Republic market and subsequently how the business has gone from strength to strength with additional offices in Spain, Portugal, Dubai and Ireland, within the last two years.

International trade adviser Terry Wood of UK Trade and Investment, who is based at Black Country Chamber of Commerce, said: "With careful research and planning there are major opportunities for work in the Czech Republic.

"I know the businesses who attended this event welcomed the chance to meet the ambassador and other senior figures from the Czech Republic and I am sure genuine business opportunities will develop following the event."
