Bright SP/ARKS meet Czech Ambassador

Released: 14 March 2007

Wolverhampton Mayor, Councillor John Davis, and Czech Ambassador, Mr Jan Winkler, have met some of the city’s ‘brightest SP/ARKs’ at the Creative Industries Centre at Wolverhampton Science Park.

The Ambassador was in the city for a promotional event for local businesses showcasing potential opportunities for them in the Czech Republic, organised by the city council’s Economic Development Team.

Unique to Wolverhampton and the West Midlands area SP/ARK is home to 30 successful creative businesses, retaining and supporting creative talent in the Black Country.

Providing accommodation and mentoring for business starters and freelancers from a wide range of creative disciplines ranging from graphics, web design, video, photography and animation to publishing, SP/ARK has shared furnished workspace in a professional and prestigious environment with specialist IT support, meeting facilities, training and networking opportunities.

“It has been very rewarding to meet such lively and enthusiastic talent and to see how the SP/ARK project contributes so much to encouraging these creative entrepreneurs to develop new business”, said Councillor Davis.

SP/ARK Marketing Manager, Marina Ibrahim, said: “It has been rewarding to establish such a successful project to which we have attracted a wide range of creative specialists.

”Without SP/ARK these businesses would have migrated to other cities, at great loss to both Wolverhampton and the region. Having kept this critical mass of quality talent we will now attract and create further demand. This will be an important building block for the future and contribute to the regeneration of the city and region to secure employment, create wealth and attract further investment”, she added.

Issued by the press office and The University of Wolverhampton Press Office.
