Key Stage 3 Performance Tables Reaction
Released: 1 March 2007
Figures were released today for last year’s test results in English, mathematics and science for 14-year-olds. In Wolverhampton there was a mixed picture for outcomes with some schools making rapid strides. Results across the city in English have bucked the national trend, staying close to our target rather than declining as they have done nationally. Maths results are also close to target. In science there has been a slight increase in performance.
Over time there has been significant progress in each of the subjects, broadly matching that seen nationally and resulting in value-added scores that match what might be expected in both English and mathematics.
Councillor Geoff Foster, Wolverhampton City Council cabinet member for schools, said: “These results show that while progress is being made there is more to do at key stage three. The fact that there is a national curriculum review taking place and reconsideration of the assessment regime, shows that change nationally can be expected. Locally we have improved levels of support to schools and they are anticipating significant improvements in the next eighteen months having set themselves very challenging targets.”
