Black Country routes into work training and careers event
Released: 28 June 2007
More than 50 Black Country organisations offering employment opportunities, careers guidance and training schemes will come together for an exciting new event in Wolverhampton.
The Black Country Routes Into Work training and careers day, organised by the city council’s Bilston Regeneration team and The Bilston Development Project, will take place on Wednesday July 4 at Bilston Outdoor Market, directly opposite the Black Country Route.
The drop-in event open to all will run from 10am to 4pm, providing an arena for people to access employers and seek advice from employment agencies, training providers, careers and guidance services.
Key employers such as Wolverhampton City Council; Travel West Midlands; Bullock Construction; West Midlands Police; West Midlands Fire Service and Walsall Hospitals NHS Trust will be attending the day to raise awareness of their current job vacancies and training opportunities.
Organisations and agencies including the City of Wolverhampton College; Connexions; Dudley College; Job Centre Plus; Sandwell College; Rathbone Training; Mercia Management; The Prince’s Trust and the University of Wolverhampton will also be encouraging people to find out more about the services and options they provide.
Councillor Peter Bilson, Wolverhampton City Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Enterprise, said: “This is a fantastic event bringing together a number of organisations.
“Anyone in the Black Country area, whether searching for a new job, unemployed and looking to get back into work, or a school leaver looking for careers guidance, will be able to get advice during the day.
“People can talk to businesses about local job vacancies and explore alternative career routes as well as gain information and support to take up the opportunities provided.
“Initiatives such as this are vitally important in accompanying capital investment taking place in the region as they maximise the benefit this investment creates.”
The event is supported by The Bilston Development Project; Bilston Regeneration; The Bilston Town Centre Events Group; Wolverhampton City Council; Wolverhampton Learning Partnership; The Learning and Skills Council and the City of Wolverhampton College.
Free parking is available in the town. For more information please call 01902 556193.
