Foster carers' celebration

Released: 27 June 2007

Wolverhampton foster carers were rewarded for decades of on-going support with a special awards evening in the city.

Foster carers and social workers joined together for the celebration last night, Tuesday 26 June, which featured a dazzling set from local X-Factor stars 4Sure.

The evening was organised by Fostering in Wolverhampton, the fostering section of Wolverhampton City Council, in partnership with Wolverhampton Foster Care Association, to recognise the contribution of more than 17 foster carers from the Wolverhampton region.

The event, at Linden House, provided an opportunity for Wolverhampton City Council to show its appreciation to those carers who have given so many years of service to this worthwhile and rewarding vocation.

Among those invited to the event were five carers who received commemorative awards for ten years service; four for 20 years service and three carers were given special awards for an astounding 35 years service. Five foster carers also received retirement awards.

More than 70 foster carers and their families attended to share in the successes.

Councillor Paula Brookfield, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: “We are really proud of our foster carers and the wonderful work that they do.

“This is a great way of saying congratulations and a big thank-you to all those carers who have supported Fostering in Wolverhampton and so many children over the years.

“The fact that we have so many carers receiving awards for great lengths of service highlights the special rewards that can be gained from fostering.”

The evening was launched by George Perrens, Chair of the Wolverhampton Foster Care Association, with 4Sure rounding off the evening in style.

The worthy recipients received their commemorative gifts from Councillor Trudy Bowen, Mayor of Wolverhampton.

This annual event has been held for more than six years with over 130 carers being recognised for the difference they have made to children’s lives.
