New readers' group

Released: 18th June 2007

Copies of an autographed DVD of an interview with gay author Paul Hartnett will be given free of charge to those attending the first LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans) readers’ group to be held in the city this Wednesday 20 June.

Paul Hartnett visited Wolverhampton last month was as part of the Big Book Fortnight when the city’s libraries, along with those in Walsall, Dudley and Sandwell, hosted two weeks of events designed to show that reading is fun and often thought-provoking.

Booked to speak to an audience at the City Bar on King Street during the event, the author agreed to spend time being grilled by budding journalist, librarian Stefan Kucharczych and filmed by media student and part-time library assistant, David Leach.

Audience Development Manager for the library service, Sharron Harrison, said: “Paul Hartnett is such an interesting author we were delighted that he agreed to be interviewed during his recent visit to Wolverhampton.

“Paul’s evening performance was very entertaining and he charmed everyone as he chatted to the audience after the event. I am hoping that the DVD of the interview that Stefan and David were involved in will serve as a unique memento of his visit to those attending the new readers’ group.

“As we’re going to be reading some of Paul’s work in our first book for the group it will also help us find out more about how he writes and where his ideas come from.

“It was rewarding that Stefan and David were able to get involved in Paul’s visit as library staff but also to develop their CVs and experience in areas that they’re hoping to make their careers”, she added.

The reader’s group will meet on every third Wednesday of the month at City Bar in King Street, off Dudley Street, from 7.30pm and all are welcome.

More details about the events and the new readers group can be found by visiting www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/libraries website.
