Summer Row inquiry takes a break
Released: 08 June 2007
The Public Inquiry into the Summer Row scheme compulsory purchase order has now adjourned for the presentation of evidence later this month and into July by three objectors that could not be accommodated in the original inquiry programme.
A significant number of objectors have already withdrawn their objections and more are to follow.
The scheme, if approved, will bring a significant new development to the city centre, including a major Debenhams department store, more than 80 other retail units, residential accommodation, bars, restaurants, underground car parking and more. The development will create over 700 full-time jobs on completion and 300 construction jobs per annum during its build phase and bring some of the world’s biggest retailers to the city.
The council’s closing statements were made on 16 May, although additional evidence will now be heard in June and July due to adjournments in the original programme. Planning Inspector Philip Ware, who has overseen the presentation of all evidence thus far, will be reporting later this year, with a decision from the Secretary of State expected shortly afterwards.
The Council remains committed to assisting all those affected by the proposed Summer Row development as far as it is able.
