Family fun day in Bilston

Released: 25 July 2007

A family fun day in Bilston featuring music, dancing, magic and theatre performers will be rounded off with the release of hundreds of balloons into the sky.

The event, jointly organised by Ettingshall and Bilston East Local Neighbourhood Partnerships, will take place on Sunday July 29 at Springvale
Social Club, Millfields Road.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a range of activities, displays and performances including carnival dancing, Indian drumming, magicians, the Gazebo theatre, and the animal man, from 11am to 3pm.

Most of the activities will involve the chance to get involved in ‘hands on’ workshops and the Beacon Radio Roadshow will be at the event. Food and refreshments will also be on sale.

The day will be ended with the release of the balloons by representatives from each of the partnerships, to signify wishes for change by local residents for the Bilston area.

Community Development Worker Steve Poole said: “We are really looking forward to the day and are hoping for sunshine.

“Many interactive, fun, noisy and colourful activities will be going on with opportunities to make music, costumes, and head-dresses from many different cultures.

“This event will also provide local people with an opportunity to let the local neighbourhood partnerships know how they would like to see public services delivered in their neighbourhoods.

“We are indebted to Springvale Social Club for their invaluable support. Even if the weather is not too good, the event will still go ahead as the club has very kindly offered us the use of their large hall.”

Partners including the neighbourhood safety project, community wardens, police and the fire service will all be involved and voluntary community groups have been invited to take part to raise funds and promote their activities.

The Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Trudy Bowen, will give a welcoming speech at 12 noon, accompanied by neighbourhood partnership representatives and the Bradley Rose Queen, Stacy Bryan.

Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

For further information, please contact Neighbourhood Partnership Officers John Goalby or Imroze Sahota on 01902 550741 or 551760.
