BIG Wild Read Launch in Wolverhampton
Released: 20 July 2007
More than 40 children and their families enjoyed the launch of this summer’s reading challenge at Wolverhampton’s Central Library.
The BIG Wild Read national initiative was kicked off in the city to get children reading six books throughout the school holidays, while collecting prizes and rewards along the way.
After being entertained by ‘BIG Wild Poet’ Chris White at the launch on Wednesday 11 July, children eagerly signed up to take part.
Marion Cockin, Assistant City Librarian said: “It has been great to see so many children signing up for the BIG Wild Read and borrowing books to read during the summer.
“The summer reading challenge is always a favourite and to make it even more special, this year it’s linked to protecting the environment. For every 25 children who finish the challenge, a tree will be planted by the Woodland Trust.
“Events and activities will be taking place at libraries throughout Wolverhampton this summer to support the initiative - we hope that many children join in and enjoy the challenge.”
