Wolverhampton school preparing for book quiz final

Released: 17 July 2007

A team of six pupils from Castlecroft Primary School will represent Wolverhampton in the first ever Black Country Libraries School Book Quiz.

Castlecroft Primary won the Wolverhampton ‘Game 4 Reading’ book quiz in December 2006 and the students are now preparing for the Black Country-wide quiz tomorrow, Wednesday 18 July.

The team of year five and six pupils will compete against schools which have won book quizzes in three neighbouring authorities: Holy Trinity CE Primary from Walsall; Howley Grange Primary from Dudley and St Paul’s CE Primary from Sandwell.

Almost 200 schools and more than 1,200 pupils throughout the Black Country have taken part over the last academic year to find a winner from each authority to go forward to the final, taking place in Walsall. The winning school will be awarded a cup and all pupils taking part will receive medals and book tokens.

Quiz questions will be based on four books which pupils were given at the beginning of June: Aquila by Andrew Norriss; A Mouse called Wolf by Dick King-Smith; Cliffhanger by Jacqueline Wilson and My Brother’s Ghost by Allan Ahlberg.

Sylvia Jenkins, Children’s and Education Services Manager for Wolverhampton Libraries said: “This is the first time that the four Schools and Education Library Services, as part of BCLiP (Black Country Libraries in Partnership), have organised a quiz to find the Black Country winning school.

“The knowledge and enthusiasm of the children has been amazing. We hope that all the pupils who have taken part so far have enjoyed themselves and we wish Castlecroft School all the best for the final.”
