Small lottery registration reminder
Released: 16 July 2007
Charities and other non-commercial organisations in Wolverhampton which run small lottery competitions are being reminded that the Gambling Act requires them to get a new type of registration.
The act becomes law on September 1 and means that small society lotteries (SSLs) with proceeds of less than £20,000 must hold an updated registration with the local authority.
Wolverhampton City Council has written to all known SSLs to advise them that the law is changing and they need to confirm their registration before August 31. A large number have already responded, but a considerable number are yet to do so.
Any SSL which has not re-registered before the end of August will have their registration cancelled and it will then be illegal for them to operate.
Wolverhampton City Council’s licensing section is asking all SSLs who have not yet re-registered or have any questions about how the new law affects them to get in touch 01902 551155.
