Wolverhampton Mayor greets Polish counterpart
Released: 4 July 2007
Wolverhampton Mayor, Councillor Trudy Bowen, has welcomed the Mayor of Barlinek in Poland, Mr Zygmunt Siarkiewisz, for a civic visit to the city.
The trip has come about as Caparo Engineering Ltd, one of Wolverhampton’s Business Champions’ companies, has bought Polish forging company, Zuo Bomet SA, based in Barlinek, which is located approximately 480 kilometres west of Warsaw in North West Poland.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Enterprise, Councillor Peter Bilson together with European Member Champion, Councillor Neville Patten, joined the Mayor in greeting Mr Siarkiewisz and hosting a welcome lunch.
The Mayor of Barlinek was accompanied to the civic suite by Mr Chris Hammond and Mrs Jo Beck, representatives of Caparo, and interpreter, Mr Marek Daroszewski. Council officers from Regeneration and Environment also met Mr Siarkiewisz during his visit.
Caparo Engineering Ltd has been seeking an appropriate investment in Poland as a base for developing sales of its products in Central and Eastern European markets. At the beginning of May an agreement was reached to buy over 90% of the shares of the Polish forging company Zuo Bomet SA based in Barlinek.
Bomet will complement the two existing UK Clydesdale Forge facilities in Dudley and Hartlepool.
Further information is available from the Clydesdale forge and Caparo websites.
Issued by the press office.
