People wanting to see what’s in store need look no further than the latest What’s on Where Wolverhampton guide, which is out now. The handy, full colour brochure is crammed with information about the entertainment on offer including one-off, annual and sports events, from July to September 2007 in and around the city.
Music highlights this summer include performances by top name acts such as Erasure and Nine Inch Nails as well as popular tributes Ollie Hughes as Robbie Williams and One Night Of Queen at the Civic Hall, recently awarded the title of Best Large Concert Venue in the Express & Star Spotlight Awards.
Meanwhile a diverse range of up-and-coming bands, including SIGN, 28 Costumes, and Elliot Minor will be appearing at The Little Civic and Civic Hall Bar, highlighting once again how Wolverhampton is at the cutting edge of the music scene.
Country music lovers are also eagerly awaiting Wolvestock 13, the UK’s largest free entry country music festival, which takes place on July 21 and 22 at East Park. Please note that this event does not feature in the guide. For more information visit the Wolves Civic website or call 01902 552099.
Theatre fans are in for a treat with a great selection of productions at the Grand Theatre. The auditorium will be re-seated during July and August, before the theatre re-opens with a fantastic programme including That’ll Be The Day, Opera Babes Unplugged, a one-night only performance from Jethro and the musical Chicago.
The city’s Arena Theatre will also be presenting a full and varied programme of shows throughout the coming months. The Charles Vance Summer Rep Season will be one of the highlights, including The Marriage-Go-Around, Five Finger Exercise, How The Other Half Loves and The Caretaker.
Movie-goers will be thrilled with the choice at Light House which is screening classics such as Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and the acclaimed Fight Club starring Brad Pitt.
Light House will also be joining in with the BBC’s Summer of British Film nationwide celebration showing movies including Goldfinger, The Wicker Man and The Dam Busters, all in Digital High Definition.
Exhibition highlights include Welcome by Choi Jeong Hwa which has already seen Wolverhampton Art Gallery wrapped in a variety of coloured silks. Pin Up Pop: Pop Art and Popular Culture continues in the gallery’s new Pop Art extension; Raw To Refined opens at Bilston Craft Gallery and Tactile Terrain by Claire Diamond is one of the many displays in Light House’s gallery space.
The outdoor events programme will transform the city with events including the Continental Market and Wolverhampton City Show which takes place on July 7 and 8 at West Park and features the Royal Artillery Parachute Display Team and the Imp Motorcycle Club among show stopping displays from Monster Trucks and Stuntworld.
Further high-points of the summer season include Bantock House and Park’s ever-popular 1940s weekend and activities such as Yoga Bugs and the BIG Wild Poet events in libraries across Wolverhampton.
