Forthcoming mayoral charity events

Released: 29 January 2007

Wolverhampton Mayor, Councillor John Davis, is hosting a concert next week in the Civic Suite with all proceeds to his designated charities, Compton Hospice, Acorn Children’s Hospice and Kids4Kids a charity providing goats for need families in Africa.

Members of Wolverhampton Chamber Choir have kindly agreed to perform in the Civic Suite next Tuesday, February 6th.

Established over 25 years ago, Wolverhampton Chamber Choir perform a wide range of music by the great composers, ranging from St John’s Passion by JS Bach to the works of Rutter and unaccompanied madrigals and folk songs.

A choir of around 32 mixed voices under the expert musical direction of Geoff Weaver achieves an exceptional quality of singing which provides much pleasure to the people of Wolverhampton.

For the Mayor’s Charity Concert, WCC will present a very diverse programme of madrigals, folksongs, show stopping classics, early Spanish music and instrumental solos. There will be no sacred music.

Tickets are £5 and include a glass of wine which will be available during the interval.

Later in February (Thursday, Feb 22nd) the Mayor is extending an invitation to join him at Sinners and Thinners at 5, Bridgnorth Road, Compton, for a meal and raffle.

The restaurant caters for people with a range of dietary requirements including vegetarians, diabetics, coeliacs and people with lactose intolerance, concentrating on good fresh ingredients, organic and locally sourced where possible, served in a friendly canalside setting.

Tickets are £22.50 for a three course dinner after which guests will have the chance to participate in a raffle. There are a limited number of seats so anyone interested in supporting this event is advised to book early to avoid disappointment.

A Civic Night at the Dogs is also planned for the end of March. Tickets for the Thursday, March 29th, event are £25, which includes a three course dinner as well as all the excitement and action of a night at the races.

Further information about all these events are available from the Mayor’s Office, on 01902 554090/554091/554079.

Issued by the press office.
