Released: 26 January 2007
Wolverhampton primary schools among the top 100 most improved in the country have been congratulated on the achievement by the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools.
Eastfield Junior and Infant School and Manor Junior and Infant School in Bilston have received letters from Lord Andrew Adonis in recognition of how they have made ongoing progress.
Both schools have been praised for the excellent performance of their pupils in the 2006 national key stage two tests published in the Primary Achievement and Attainment Tables last month.
The results show that Eastfield Junior and Infant School is among the 100 top performing schools based on the most improved schools over the period from 2003 to 2006.
Manor Junior and Infant School is among the 100 top performing schools based on the key stage one and key stage two value added measure which is the measure of progress children make from the age of seven to 11 years old. In letters to both schools Lord Adonis said: “It is an enormous credit to your staff, governors and pupils for their hard work and success.
“This is a great achievement of which you and all at the school can be proud, and I send my very best wishes for sustained improvement in the year ahead.”
Councillor Geoff Foster, Wolverhampton City Council Cabinet Member for Schools, said: “This is a wonderful achievement for these Wolverhampton schools.
“They should be delighted to be among the most improved schools in the country and rightly deserve to be singled out for praise by Lord Adonis.”
In 2005 Manor Junior and Infant School’s value added score was the best in the country and in 2006 its levels of attainment placed it sixth in the country.
