Celebration of pupils' role in building a model community

Released: 25 January 2007

A special event will take place tomorrow (Friday, January 26) to say thank-you to pupils from three Bilston primary schools for their help with a community consultation.

Pupils from Field View, Holy Trinity and Wilkinson primary schools have created a large scale model of Bilston East to help local people prioritise the issues that matter to them.

Bilston East Neighbourhood Partnership has invited children from the three schools to tomorrow’s celebration from 2pm at Wilkinson Primary School, where MP Pat McFadden will present them all with certificates for their work.

Children from each school took part in building and painting the three dimensional model which is made up of every street and prominent building in the area. The model was then split into sections and taken to nine different locations. At each venue, local people were invited to share what they think are the most important issues about where they live, including what works well and where they would like to see improvements.

As part of the consultation, 5,000 questionnaires were also sent out to local people.

From the results, a number of priorities have been identified by the neighbourhood partnership and put into an action plan for Bilston East.

So far, there has not been a venue big enough to hold the model in its full entirety and Wilkinson Primary School’s large school hall is only just big enough.

During the celebration there will also be prize presentation for the lucky winners of the household survey draw.

Issued by the press office.
