A helping hand for the Grand
Released: 24 January 2007
Wolverhampton City Council’s Shopmobility service has helped the Grand Theatre entertain the crowds this winter by providing a motorised scooter for the pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Iain Watkins, Marketing Manager at the Grand Theatre said: “Our panto dame played by Don Maclean makes his first entrance on the scooter and it always gets a great response from the audience.
“It’s a real surprise when he appears - space is limited on stage so it’s also an advantage that the scooter is so easy to control!”
Shopmobility operates from the Wulfrun Shopping Centre. A range of mobility scooters, wheelchairs and trolleys can be hired for use around the city centre. Shopmobility has a selection of three and four wheeled scooters which have the capacity to assist people weighing up to 35 stone.
For all powered equipment, the charge is 50p for the first hour and 25p for each additional hour after. Manual wheelchairs are charged at 50p per loan and there is no charge for the use of shopping trolleys. In addition, a holiday loan service is available. Manual wheelchairs can be loaned for a period of up to three weeks. The charge for this service is £1 per day.
Shopmobility is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 4pm (closed on Bank Holidays and Sundays). Dedicated car parking is available for Shopmobility customers. For further information phone Shopmobility on 01902 556021 or email shopmobility.wmbc@dial.pipex.com.

Running up to February 4, 2007, performances are twice daily (no performances on Mondays). Performance times are: Matinees 2.30pm and Evenings 7.15pm, except Sundays when they are at 2pm and 6pm.
