Awards ceremony honours Council staff
Released: 15 January 2007
Dedicated staff from Wolverhampton City Council will be celebrating recent successes in training and qualifications at a special awards ceremony.
Around 200 members of staff will be congratulated on their achievements by Councillor Helen King, Cabinet Member for Adults, Councillor John Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, and Glen Mason, Director for Adults and Community.
The event will take place at the city’s Civic Hall on January 25. Staff honoured include those in adult social care and those who work for services such as libraries, arts and museums, parks, sport and recreation and adult education.
Adult social care will also be presented with the Investors in People (IiP) award. The department, which employs nearly 1,800 people, achieved the coveted IiP standard for its commitment to staff in November 2006. The awards ceremony will see the official hand-over of the plaque.
Councillor King said: “Our staff work tirelessly for some of the most vulnerable residents in the city. Their training achievements encourage a learning workforce which not only benefits our service users but our staff as well.
“Our departmental plan sets out a clear priority of developing the capability and capacity of our workforce. We all strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for people.
“To be able to do this our staff need the right skills for the job and we are committed to helping them continue to learn and grow with us so that they can help people to improve their quality of life and life chances.”
Councillor Reynolds said: “I am immensely pleased to congratulate all those staff who have again shown their commitment by undertaking and achieving success through learning opportunities.
“The awards are an important acknowledgement of their continued hard work for the people of Wolverhampton and the council.”
Award winners will be presented with certificates. Members of staff will also talk about their work and achievements.
The event is being organised by Adults and Community’s Learning and Development Section based at Beckminster House.
