Volunteer Task at Smestow Valley Local Nature Reserve
Released: 10th January 2007
Wolverhampton City Council is looking for volunteers to help carry out improvements to a nature reserve. Trees and shrubs at Smestow Valley need pruning and new fencing has to be installed.
The reserve was once a main artery for Wolverhampton’s canals and a freight train route, but it is now a fantastic wildlife corridor rich in flora and fauna - including some rare species.
Council rangers have organised a volunteer day on Wednesday January 17 from 10am to 3pm. Training will be provided as well as tea and biscuits. Participants, who must be aged over 16, need to bring suitable outdoor clothing, sturdy footwear and a packed lunch.
If you want to book a place or find out more, please contact the rangers on 01902 552351. More information about the nature reserve can be found on the www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/smestow website.
