Have your say on the Housing Strategy

Released: 2 January 2007

Wolverhampton residents are being asked to give their views on the city’s housing strategy. The document is currently being reviewed and the council is consulting with people to find out what they think about it.

The review is underway because there have been a number of developments to housing policy since 2005 which is when the strategy was published. People have until January 22 to let the local authority know their views.

Councillor Peter Bilson, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Enterprise, said that it was important Wolverhampton people had their say on the strategy. He added: “As a council we are committed to listening to residents and there can be few issues as important as housing. I hope as many people as possible will take some time to tell us what they think about the strategy and how we can improve it.”

Wolverhampton’s housing strategy outlines the council’s vision for housing in the city. It also identifies four priorities which are:

  • Make neighbourhoods safer, popular and desirable.
  • Ensure there is an adequate supply of housing which meets needs and aspirations.
  • Ensure that people with special needs or who are vulnerable have appropriate housing and support.
  • To ensure all housing stock in Wolverhampton is in a good condition.

A copy of the consultation document can be downloaded by logging on to www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/housingstrategy

People can also attend a consultation session at the main auditorium of Wolverhampton Science Park from 9am to 12.30pm on January 9.

Issued by the press office.
