New year guided walk in West Park
Released: 27 December 2007
People are being encouraged to go along and find out more about Wolverhampton's premier park in the first of a 2008 series of accompanied walks around the city’s acknowledged ‘jewel in the crown’ – West Park.
Park Rangers will be hosting the first guided walk of the New Year in West Park on Sunday January 6th.
Other dates for similar guided tours of the city’s restored Victorian Park will be announced later in the year.
The informal walk will give people the chance to learn more about the history and importance of the city's premier park and the animals that live there.
Highlights of the tour include the iconic conservatory, restored bandstand, lake, refurbished chalet tearooms and magnificent central flower beds.
The conservatory has re-opened following extensive painting work and is certainly worth a visit, with the staff performing a marvellous job with the layout of plants.
There will be ample time afterwards for people to ask the Park Rangers any questions they might have over a warm drink in the Tearooms. The walk will start from the tearooms (near the bandstand / Connaught Road entrance) at 11.00am on Sunday, January 6th.
Whilst at the tearooms or conservatory, visitors will be able to pick up guides and pamphlets displayed in literature stands for other attractions throughout the city.
Issued by the press office.
