Message of thanks from Councillor Pat Byrne
Released: 21 December 2007
Councillor Pat Byrne, a member of the Christmas Festival Working Group, today expressed her thanks to the people of Wolverhampton for their generosity following this week's theft from the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd Homeless Project.
Presents which had been donated to the charity as part of the council's annual Christmas gift appeal were stolen during a burglary at the Darlington Street Methodist Centre on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning the council was alerted to the theft and pulled out all the stops to alert the local media and appeal for people to help.
The item was featured in the Express and Star, on BBC Midlands Today, BBC Radio WM, 107.7 The Wolf and 97.2 Beacon Radio. Many people answered the call for help and donated money and gifts.
Councillor Byrne said: "I am so grateful to everyone who helped the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd Homeless Project. People have been so kind and it really does restore your faith in human nature when kindness prevails after such a callous theft. I know that council staff organised collections and the people of Wolverhampton and surrounding areas rallied round to support the charity. May I take this opportunity to wish them all a very merry Christmas."
Issued on behalf of Councillor Byrne by the press office.
