Energy saving lightbulb

Energy saving initiative sheds light on community matters

Released: 10 December 2007

Thousands of free energy saving light bulbs are being handed to older residents in Wolverhampton by local neighbourhood partnerships.

Bilston East and Ettingshall local neighbourhood partnerships are giving out 2,000 light bulbs to older members of the community in the Bradley and Bilston area.

They started by handing out 1,000 at an event at St Leonard’s Church in Bilston on Monday 3 December.

Another 80 residents have been invited to pick up free light bulbs during a Christmas party at Bradley Community Resource Centre on Wednesday 12 December.

This week’s initiative is organised by Bilston East Local Neighbourhood Partnership, with help from Bradley Community Resource Centre.

The event will also provide the opportunity for members of the partnership to talk to older residents about any issues they might like to discuss and new developments in the area.

E.ON has donated the energy saving light bulbs and the partnership is identifying community members that could benefit from them through community representatives and events. The rest of the donated light bulbs will be handed out in the near future.

Steve Poole, Community Development Worker, said: “The handing out of these free light bulbs is part of the partnership Environment Sub Group’s work and commitment to promoting energy efficiency.

“The partnership also recognises the need to reach all groups in our community. Events like this provide a good way to get the views of older members of our community as well as inform them about what is happening in the area through new developments such as phase one of the Bilston Urban Village.”
