Gary offers top tips to aspiring musicians

Released: 30 August 2007

A music tutor who has worked alongside the likes of The Prodigy and 808 State is leading a course for Wolverhampton City Council’s Adult Education Service.

Gary Edwards, who has also tutored members of current Midlands favourites The Twang during his 15-year career, will run the Music Technology course at Pendeford Community Learning Centre next month to help would-be musicians and producers learn new skills.

He said: “The way this course works is unique; my approach to teaching music technology is to treat the technology as a means to a musical end and to broaden the study so that rather than focusing exclusively on narrowly technical issues, students also learn how to evaluate and market music.

“In addition to learning how to use technology proficiently and creatively, I also explore how to produce music that is good enough to earn real money.”

Gary, who has been an engineer and producer since the early 1990s, added: “I have found this comprehensive approach inspires as well informs my students.”

Former students include experimental dance producer Will Holland (Quantic) and David Warsop, lead vocalist from new wave punk band Beat Union.

For details of the course, call the Adult Education Service team on 01902 558164 or 558180 or log on to www.aes.wolverhampton.gov.uk or www.myspace.com/pclc_musictech.
