Consultation on Waste Management Strategy

Released: 16 August 2007

Wolverhampton residents are being invited to share their views on a draft document which outlines plans for managing the city’s waste in the next two decades.

The authority is currently asking for comments on the draft Wolverhampton Waste Management Strategy for 2006 to 2026.

The strategy sets out how the council, in partnership with Enterprise Plc, intends to invest in and provide the best possible waste and recycling services for the city.

Local authorities must find ways of reducing their dependence on disposing of waste to landfill by moving towards more sustainable ways of waste management whilst trying to reduce any increase in waste.

The strategy sets out objectives and standards for the service, provides a framework for monitoring and evaluation and aims to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction

The draft strategy acknowledges the importance of consulting with residents on the proposals: “It is recognised that householders are a fundamental part of the process and their active involvement is an essential element in the delivery of new standards in waste management.

“The strategy seeks to reflect the views of the community and the final draft will be prepared following a process of extensive consultation.

“Similarly the final draft of the strategy will reflect the views of other stakeholders including the waste management industry who provide expertise, technologies and investment.”

From this week up to Friday, October 24th, 2007, the council is inviting comments about the Waste Management Strategy 2006 to 2026 from members of the public.

Views, comments and feedback about the strategy can be submitted via City Direct on email at city.direct@wolverhampton.gov.uk or by phone on Wolverhampton 01902 551155 and also by completing an online form via the www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/wastestrategy website link.
