Open day aims to dispel cremation myths
Released: 13 August 2007
An open day is being held at Bushbury Crematorium next month.
Staff are opening the doors to give members of the public the chance to find out about cremation procedures and to dispel some of the myths which surround this sensitive subject.
Organisers say many people are unsure about the cremation process, how to make arrangements after the death of a loved one and what options are available to them.
Adam Clelland, senior officer for bereavement services, said: “The open day is aimed at people who perhaps have recently lost a loved one and came to a service at the crematorium, but also to anyone who wants to find out more about the processes that go on behind the scenes.”
Previous open days at Bushbury Crematorium – the last was two years ago – have been attended by hundreds of visitors who were given a guided tour and an explanation of the cremation service by staff.
Adam added: “We believe this event helps people with the bereavement process.
“People who have been before have told us that it has really helped them to know what happened to their loved one following the service and that they were dealt with respectfully.”
Bushbury Crematorium, on Underhill Lane, conducts more than 2,500 cremations each year, making it the second busiest crematorium in the West Midlands.
The open day is on Saturday, September 15, between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
