Released: 9 August 2007

Wolverhampton City Council with its partners, including Advantage West Midlands and English Partnerships, is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephen Catchpole as the chief executive of the new Wolverhampton Development Company.

The Wolverhampton Development Company is being set up by Wolverhampton City Council, Advantage West Midlands and national regeneration agency English Partnerships as an Urban Regeneration Company in order to speed up the regeneration of the city. The ambition for the company is to assist Wolverhampton to become a premier city recognised on both the national and international stage.

Wolverhampton Development Company Chairman, Mr Graham Mackenzie, welcomed Stephen’s appointment, saying: “We are delighted that Stephen has agreed to become the chief executive of the new Wolverhampton Development Company.

“As the chief executive of the new company Stephen will lead in providing strategic delivery focus, co-ordinating the regeneration of key areas of the city of Wolverhampton and encourage private sector partners to invest.”

Stephen brings a wealth of experience to the role through a career which has spanned the public and private sectors together with specific experience of special purpose growth and regeneration vehicles.

Stephen originally qualified as a solicitor and moved into local government where he has been the chief executive for Stevenage, Forest Heath District Council and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.

He gained experience of the private sector development industry through a position as a commercial property director in Trafalgar House Developments Ltd. He has also been the chief executive of a chamber of commerce and the Cambridgeshire Learning and Skills Council prior to taking up his current position as chief executive of Cambridgeshire Horizons.

The early focus for the Wolverhampton Development Company will be to deliver physical developments within the City Core and Stafford Road Corridor and use these to gain maximum economic and socio-economic benefits.
