Small grants for voluntary groups

Released: 25 April 2007

Voluntary and community organisations across the city are invited to apply for funding from Wolverhampton’s successful co-ordinated small grant scheme, which is again administered jointly by Wolverhampton City Council and Wolverhampton Network Consortium.

Funding is sourced from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and the city council to support new projects operating in the city for the benefit of local residents.  Groups can access grants of £500 up to £10,000, depending on the size and nature of their projects.

Since the Scheme began six years ago, it has allocated nearly £3million to 900 community projects in Wolverhampton, helping to address local needs for local people.  In 2006/07 alone, 62 groups received £330,000 for projects that contributed to Wolverhampton’s Local Area Agreement targets in four important areas of need; children and young people, safer and stronger communities, healthier communities and older people and economic development and enterprise.

Funders seeking new community appraisers to assess applications to the scheme.  Free training is being delivered to existing appraisers and to anyone who can offer their time to sit on an appraisal panel and help support quality projects in the City.  The training has proved popular so far (details are on the website) and further training sessions will be considered.

The response from voluntary and community groups in previous years has been very positive and funders are looking forward to an exciting year ahead as new and inspiring projects are put forward by local voluntary groups striving to improve the quality of life within their communities.

Please visit www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/grants for information and application forms.  If you do not have access to the internet or need further guidance, you can call Kate Millington on 01902 554023 or Shaeda Akhtar/Dina Parmar on 01902 572034.
