New partnership brings benefits for Wolverhampton Homes' tenants

Released: 23 April 2007

Wolverhampton Homes is working in partnership with the Pension Service in an effort to ensure tenants over the age of 60 have access to all the information they need on benefits and debt.

The two organisations are teaming up to provide Wolverhampton Homes tenants and leaseholders with further help and advice on welfare benefit and debt.

Councillor Pat Byrne, Chair of the Wolverhampton Homes Board said: “I am delighted that the Pension Service is working more closely with Wolverhampton Homes for the benefit of our tenants.

“This partnership will help make sure tenants over the age of 60 are receiving the benefits they are entitled to and help those who may be struggling because of debt find a way to improve their situation.”

The partnership means that Wolverhampton Homes staff can now refer tenants directly to the Pension Service Local Service by means of a referral form. The form can be completed in person at a housing office or by telephoning the office.

Tenants are then contacted by a member of the Pension Service’s visiting team to arrange a suitable appointment either at a surgery or by home visit.

The Pension Service adviser is able to carry out a benefit check to ensure the customer is receiving all the benefits they are entitled to, help apply for benefits such as Pension Credit and Attendance Allowance and give general benefit advice.

Wolverhampton Homes aims to ensure all tenants, leaseholders and residents, whatever age they may be, have access to free welfare benefit advice to help maximise income, and debt advice to help improve their current situation if they are struggling with debt.

Further information can be found on the Wolverhampton Homes website.
