Big Dave anti-bullying roadshow

Released: 19 April 2007

Strongman Dave Gaulder will attempt to pull a single decker bus across a Wolverhampton school playground as part of an anti-bullying roadshow this week.

The holder of more than 40 world strength records is currently preparing for the feat to take place at Warstones Primary School tomorrow, Friday, April 20.

Around 150 pupils will be on hand to help during the anti-bullying roadshow which has been organised by Wolverhampton City Council’s Street Crime Wardens.

Drawing on his own personal experience of being bullied, Dave will follow-up the bus pull by talking to the children about how bullying cannot be tolerated and how help is available to overcome bullies. He will also speak about becoming more confident and looking out for the needs of others by demonstrating respect and understanding for all members of society.

Senior Street Crime Warden Andy Brittan said: “Dave’s message is a very powerful one as he speaks from personal experience. He is an example of someone who has overcome bullying and gone on to achieve in his life.

“It is important that young people have the chance to meet role models like Dave and get involved in such anti-bullying events.

“The wardens team hopes to continue to hold similar events across the city.”

Representatives from the city council’s Street Crime Wardens team will also be present to assist Dave during the event and give the children the chance to ask them about the role they play in the city.

Issued by the press office.
