Warstones Fun Day
Released: 16 April 2007
A fun day was held in Warstones to give residents the chance to meet local community support groups and look at ways of improving the environment they live in.
The event was hosted by Wolverhampton City Council’s Street Crime Wardens in partnership with local community support agencies such as police and extended schools, on Friday 13 April.
Warstones Neighbourhood and Young Persons’ Fun Day at Highfields Science Specialist School provided the opportunity for people to learn more about service providers in their area and find out how they could help their neighbourhood.
The day also helped local young people engage with a number of partner organisations such as Connexions and employment services to gain career and employment advice.
Senior Street Crime Warden Andy Brittan said: “We have formed very strong links with the other agencies which are active in the community such as extended schools and the local police team, and this multi-agency approach will hopefully lead to improving the quality of life for residents and visitors.”
The event was part of wider efforts by the Street Crime Wardens to strengthen links between community support agencies and the local community which has involved establishing a core sub-group of service providers in the area.
The group has formed strong links with Highfields School as it recognises the need to include local schools and the important role they have to play in a wider approach to improving the area, looking at community safety and tackling anti-social behaviour.
Questionnaires have been circulated to all 1,500 pupils at Highfields School and the results of the surveys will play a key part in targeting youth activities in the area, where and when they are needed most.
The council’s Neighbourhood and Street Crime Wardens team plays a key role in combating crime and dealing with anti-social behaviour across the city.
A scrutiny review carried out last year by the council praised the excellent work that had been carried out by the wardens and the impact it had on the community.
