Wolverhampton-Londonderry exchange
Released: 11 April 2007
Wolverhampton students have welcomed a group of young people from Northern Ireland to the city as part of an action packed exchange programme.
Secondary and sixth form pupils from Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Sports College and Moreton Community School, aged between 14 and 17, are currently showing students from Londonderry around Wolverhampton and the surrounding area.
The theme of the exchange, which is organised in partnership with Wolverhampton City Council’s Youth and Play Services, is citizenship and leadership.
Both groups are visiting a variety of local attractions during the trip, from April 10 to 15, including Wolverhampton Art Gallery. They are exploring the gallery’s Northern Ireland Collection which looks at the cultural traditions of Northern Ireland as well as themes and images of Irish identity, history and politics.
They are also spending time at the Black Country Museum to learn about local history; enjoying a canal barge trip and visiting Drayton Manor Theme Park.
Another part of the programme involves the groups taking part in workshops to explore the programme theme.
The farewell party will be held at the Molineux Stadium and will be attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Wolverhampton.
Young people from Wolverhampton will be going to Londonderry as part of the return leg of the exchange programme at the end of July this year.
