Who is involved in Scrutiny?
Councillors
Scrutiny is undertaken by Councillors and is one of the most important ways for a non-Executive Councillor to influence policy and represent his or her constituents. The majority of Wolverhampton’s sixty Councillors are involved in Scrutiny.
Co-opted members
Some of the Scrutiny Panels include statutory co-opted members. For example, the Lifelong Learning Scrutiny Panel includes parent-governors and diocesan representatives.
Other representatives can also be co-opted onto scrutiny reviews, if they have particular knowledge of expertise about the area that Members are considering.
Officer Support
Scrutiny Officers
Scrutiny Officers support the effective development of overview and scrutiny. They project manage scrutiny reviews, offer advice and support to Members and officers and undertake appropriate research.

Democratic Support Officers
Democratic Support Officers support scrutiny by arranging and supporting meetings, including preparing agendas and writing minutes. They also provide advice on procedural matters at meetings.
