Special responsibility allowance

Special responsibility allowance is paid to those Members of the Council who have significant additional responsibilities over and above the generally accepted duties of a Councillor.

Special responsibility allowance it is paid to:

  • Leader of the Council
  • Deputy Leader of the Council
  • Leader of the main opposition group
  • Cabinet Members
  • Chair and Vice Chair of the Scrutiny Board
  • Chair and Vice Chair of the Scrutiny Panel
  • Chair and Vice Chair of the Planning Committee
  • Chair and Vice Chair of the Licensing Committee
  • Chair and Vice Chair of the Audit Committee
  • Chair and Vice Chair of the Superannuation Committee
  • Chair of the Human Resources Appeals Panel
  • Shadow Portfolio Holders and spokespersons
  • Member Champions.

No Member can receive more than one special responsibility allowance.
