Taking the first step - Completion of nomination forms
To become a councillor you need to be nominated as a councillor. You then need to declare that you accept the nomination.
The text below explains the nomination process.
Completing the nomination forms
There are several forms you need to complete at the beginning of the nomination process. These include:
- Candidates' nomination paper
- Candidates' consent to nomination
- Notice of appointment of election agent.
You should also read the reasons for disqualification from holding office as a councillor in the extract from the Local Government Act 1972.
Nomination forms are available from either the Elections Office in the city centre or from the PDF file below.
Submitting the forms
Nomination papers must be submitted to the Returning Officer by a certain time to be effective for a particular election.
For the local elections in 2006 (on 4 May) the latest time for delivering nomination papers is 12 noon on Monday 3 April 2006.
