Becoming a councillor - Will I be trained?

We are committed to developing all of the council’s staff and that includes our members.

We have a member of staff assigned to look specifically at the development needs of members and we operate a development review scheme where members have an opportunity to state their training needs.

We will arrange for an experienced councillor to mentor you during your first six months.

Our work with developing our councillors is so good that we were one of the first authorities in the West Midlands to secure the prestigious West Midlands Local Government Full Charter Award for Elected Member Development.
