Becoming a councillor - Is there a salary?

All councillors receive a basic allowance of £8,529 in 2006 to 2007. 

If you undertake further duties such as being a member of the cabinet or a scrutiny chair you will also get a special responsibility allowance.

You are also entitled to claim certain other reasonable expenses incurred as part of your duties.
