Paying council bills by Direct Debit 

Direct Debit is the Council's preferred method of payment.

Direct Debit is an automated method of paying your bills. The Council will arrange for your bank or building society to transfer your payments directly to the Council.

How to set up your Local Taxes Direct Debit

If you currently pay by any other method and wish to set up a Direct Debit, you can do so in one of the following ways:

Telephone

To set up a Direct Debit for over the telephone call:

Personal visit

Visit the Finance enquiry counter on the 1st floor of the Civic Centre (counter 12).

Download the Direct Debit form by clicking on one of the service groups below:

Return the form to the address shown on the form.

Sundry Debtors Invoice

To arrange to pay for this bill contact Banking Services:

Download the Direct Debit form and return it the address shown on the instruction.

Social Services

To arrange to pay this service bill contact the Social Services department on the number shown below:

Return the form to the address shown on the form.

Why change to Direct Debit?

  • It gives you a choice of payment dates.
  • It is a more convenient way to pay.
  • It helps you budget for the future.
  • It saves you money on postage and stationery.
  • It avoids travelling expenses and queuing.
  • You do not have to complete a new form every year, unless you change bank or building society or move house.
  • You will be notified before an amount is debited.
  • You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time.
  • All payments are governed by the Direct Debit Guarantee.

The Direct Debit Guarantee

  • This guarantee is offered by all banks and building Societies that take part in the Direct Debit scheme. The efficiency and security of the scheme is monitored and protected by your own bank or building society.
  • If the amounts to be paid or the payment dates change Wolverhampton City Council will notify you in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed.
  • If an error is made by Wolverhampton City Council or your bank or building society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your branch of the amount paid.
  • You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by writing to your bank or building society. Please also send a copy of your letter to us.
