Wolverhampton Council and the Local Taxes Division are committed to ensuring that everyone has access to services. If you have special needs there are a number of services available, including:

  • Interpreters

    We can arrange for an interpreter to help you out on the telephone or at the Council Tax and Business Rates Enquiry Counter if your first language is not English.

    Please contact the office and ask for an Interpreter stating the language required.

and ask to speak to an interpreter.

We can interpret the following languages:

  • Punjabi
  • Hindi
  • Urdu
  • Gujarati

In addition to our own staff who interpret the languages stated above, we also subscribe to the 'National Interpreting Service' - a service which provides:

  • Connection to a trained interpreter within 90 seconds
  • Access to over 100 languages
  • Accurate, confidential and impartial communication through trained professional interpreters, who work to a strict Code of Ethics

To take advantage of this service, contact the Local Taxes Division in the usual way, and we will connect you to the National Interpreting Service who will translate the conversation between us.

We can arrange a Sign Language Interpreter on an appointment basis. Please contact the Local Taxes Division if you wish to make an appointment.

  • Facilities at the Council Tax and Business Rates Enquiry Counter in the Civic Centre

    We have induction/hearing loops at all enquiry points and there are two service points designed for wheelchair users or as seated positions.

  • Minicom

    You can make enquiries regarding your Council Tax or Business Rates via Minicom. Please dial (01902) 554496.

  • Typetalk

    The Local Taxes Division subscribes to Typetalk. Typetalk is a British Telecom service which enables people with hearing impairment to communicate with people with standard telephones. You must be registered with Typetalk to use the service and contact with the Local Taxes Office will be via an operator.

  • Large print

    We can arrange for leaflets and/or correspondence to be issued in large print. Please contact the Local Taxes Division and state the information you require in large print.

  • Talking Bill

    Customers who have difficulty in reading and understanding their Council Tax or Business Rates bill can visit or contact the Local Taxes Division and we will explain the bill or the letter that has been received.

A guide entitled 'All About Council Tax' is also available which explains Council Tax in plain english. If you would like a copy of the leaflet or know someone who would benefit from reading it please contact the Local Taxes Division.
