Your Civic Centre gets a face-lift
Wolverhampton’s 27-year-old Civic Centre is getting a make-over this autumn to make it more accessible to disabled people and more customer-friendly for the 200,000 visitors it receives every year.
Alterations will be made throughout October and November to:
- Improve the sign-posting and information to help residents access the services they need with the minimum of fuss and queuing
- Install more comfortable seating and better signage at all reception points
- Put up tactile signs to help visually impaired people
- Improve the ground floor recruitment exhibition for job-seekers.
Councillor Ian Brookfield, Cabinet Member for Organisation, People and Performance said: “Making the Civic Centre more customer-friendly is long-overdue. Residents have told us they want better signposting, information and receptions so they can get to the service they need. At the same time, we need to ensure the building complies with the Disability Discrimination Act and is accessible to all our residents. We need to bring this 70s icon meets the needs of the 21st century.”
The £200,000 make-over will be completed by the end of December. Inconvenience to visitors caused by minor building works will be kept to the minimum.
